1.Root-A와 Root-B 구간 사이에 단방향 Link가 발생한다.
2.Root-A는 Root-B로 BPDU송신을 하지 못하고 Root-B는 수신을 하지 못한다.
3.Root-A는 Root-B가 전달해준 BPDU를 받게 되고 Rx Link통하여 Packet를 정상적으로 수신함으로 자신의 Link가 UP이라고 판단한다.
4. 반대로 Root-B는 Root-A의 BPDU패킷을 받지 못하고 있으므로 Root-A와 연결된 Link가 Down이라고 판단 , 하단측 Switch에게 “Root-A와 연결된 Link가 죽었소”라는 BPDU 메시지를 보내고 Blocking Port를 FWD로 상태로 만들어 달라는 요청을 하게 된다.
5.요청을 받은 하단측 Switch는 자신의 Blocking Port를 FWD 상태로 바꾸게된다.
6.이때 Root-A는 Root-B와 정상적인(?) Link 상태를 유지하고 있기에 FWD 상태를 계속 유지하게 된다.
즉 Root-A는 지속적으로 Root-B와는 하단 Switch 측으로 FWD상태로 BPDU를 내보내게 되고 Root-B는 자신의 Link가 문제가 있다는 BPDU를 내보내어 하단측 Blocking Port를 FWD 상태로 유지하도록 요청하여 STP Loop이 발생하게 된다.
UDLD Enable
- 양단의 Interface에 문제가 없으면 link state 에 Bidirectional 이라고 표시 즉 양방향 통신이 되고 있다는 뜻
(단 대국 측 장비 또한 UDLD를 지원해야 한다.)
- Link 문제 발생시 Undefined 라고 표시
※ Auto nego mode 와 UDLD및 Loop Guard 를 동시 사용시 물리적,논리적 단 방향 문제와 Loop를 방지할 수 있다.
(UDLD Link 단위/Loop Guard Vlan단위)
UDLD Mode
- 정상모드(normal mode) : 광케이블의 결선 Error로 인한 단 방향 Link 감지
- 적극모드(aggressive mode) : 광케이블과 UTP등 까지 Link를 감지 할 수 있다.

enable Enable UDLD protocol on fiber ports except where locally configured // Normal Mode
message Set UDLD message parameters // Message 교환 주기 설정
Interface에 설정
Switch(config-if)#udld port aggressive
※ UDLD 기능에 의해서 다운된 인터페이스를 다시 활성화시키는 방법은 다음과 같이 여러 가지가 있다.
1. udld reset
2. 해당 Interface에 no shutdown
3. errdisable recovery cause udld 사용
